Name: Emma-ō

Emma-ō is a demon I’d been mostly unfamiliar with. I found the name in Anton LaVey’s Satanic Bible, as one of his Infernal Names to be invoked during the Invocation to Satan. After doing a bit of research, I realized I was more familiar with Emma-ō, or King Emma or Yama as he is more typically referred to in anime English dubs, than I thought. Emma-ō (he’s called Yama in Indian Buddhism) is the king of hell. His job is to judge the souls of men, and to assign them to one of sixteen regions of hell until their rebirth.
Playing With Demons 
Interesting. I had not known much about Emma-O, beyond seeing the name in LaVey’s Satanic Bible. I had known only a little more about Yama. But fascinating series and I look forward to future posts!
